Mesopotamia was an ancient area where, prior to 500 BC, humans settled in the semi-tropical Tigres-Euphrates valley. The area was home to early civilisations, including Sumer, Akkad, Babylonia, and Assyria.
The local foods available were fruits, seeds, nuts and vegetables. Foods were picked and eaten as desired or required.
As human populations expanded and spread out geographically, goats milk was added to the diet. Later, grains were added. Children born who could not adapt to the new dairy or grain diet became sickly and died. The children who survived became stronger and their adaptive capabilities were enhanced. As civilisations moved to colder climates humans began to depend more and more on stored food and later, animals such as bears and deer were consumed. Survivors of dietary mutations were hardy and adapted well to the heavier higher purine foods.
